Ivermectin ist ein semisynthetisches Anthelmintikum für die orale Verabreichung. Ivermectin wird aus den Avermectin abgeleitet, einer Klasse hochaktiver Breitspektrum-Antiparasiten, die aus den Fermentationsprodukten von Streptomyces avermitilis isoliert werden. Ivermectin ist ein Gemisch mit mindestens 90 % 5-O-Demethyl-22, 23-Dihydroavermectin A1a und weniger als 10 % 5-O-Demethyl-25-de(1-methylpropyl)-22, 23-dihydro-25-(1-methylethyl) avermectin A1B, allgemein als 22, 23-dihydroavermectin B1A bzw. B1b H2b bezeichnet. Die jeweiligen empirischen Formeln sind C48H74O14 und C47H72O14 mit Molekulargewichten von 875,10 bzw. 861,07.

Ivermectin ist ein weißes bis gelblich-weißes, nicht hygroskopisches, kristallines Pulver mit einem Schmelzpunkt von etwa 155ºC. Es ist in Wasser unlöslich, aber in Methanol frei löslich und in 95% Ethanol löslich.

Ivermectin ist in den Injektionen 5ml, 10ml, 25ml, 50ml, 100ml erhältlich.
